Hunting in Kake Alaska!

                Hunting in Kake Alaska!

It was a cold day. We got off of the boat in Kake Alaska. My aunt was there to pick us up. "I like Kake because of three main reasons," my dad exclaimed “First I like Kake for the good hunting second I like Kake the old long logging roads, and thirdly I like it for the small population.” We usually come to Kake to hunt, but sometimes we come to visit family. I like hunting more. Kake Alaska is a small village with a small population. It has old logging roads that are good for hunting. (The logging roads are still used today.) It is a small village and it is where my story is going take place.

It was a rainy day in Sitka Alaska. Dean (my brother) was doing his homework and I was on my phone.my dad walked into the room.

He said, "Dean and Austin meet me in the living room."

Dean yelled back as he walked away ,"But I'm almost done with my homework!"

My dad yelled back, "Just get down here, it can wait."

Dean grumbled,"Fine."

Dean and I raced each other down the hall, he won but I think he cheated! We sat down on the chair across from the one my dad sat in dad exclaimed, "Guys we're going to Kake, but we are going to visit family."

My dad said,"We are going on a ferry so pack something to do."

I asked, “Where will we stay?"

My dad looked at us and told us the worst thing ever! “We will stay at your aunt’s house."

My brother sadly muttered, "Ya."

After a long, boring ferry ride, we finally made it to Kake. My aunt was there to pick us up. After we made it to her house I grumbled," I hate this house."

My dad walked into the room we stayed in and started his sentence by saying ,“We came to Kake to visit family and also to hunt."

Dean objected," Ha, what were you going to say."

My dad replied with," I'm telling the truth!"

I boasted about going hunting by yelling," I'm going hunting!" about 5 times.

About 5 days later, this would be the 4th day we have been hunting. It was 5 am my dad silently woke us up by saying, “Ready for Hunting?"

Dean replied with" 5 more min."

I mumbled,"Noooooo."

In five min we were packed for hunting and in 20 min the were driving down the roads (The roads go from Kake to Petersburg) well Dean and I were sleeping in the car for about 4 of the 5 hours we drove. Than my dad stopped the car and said, "Guys wake up, moose."
I answered with,"Can I shoot it!"

Dad said," I don't know, Fine."

Dean exclaimed, “But, but,awwww."

I yelled, “Yes!"

My dad shushed me and what seemed forever Dean handed me the gun. Locked and loaded. Then we set up to shoot the moose off at the side of the road.

My dad taped me on the shoulder and asked, “Are you ready?"

I whispered back to my dad, “Yes."

The gun clicked. The moose looked back and walked a little ways away from us. My dad fixed what was wrong with the gun( I thought dean put a round in the chamber, he didn't) and handed it back to me. We followed the moose back in the woods and then my dad blew the moose 3 times and then the moose tuned around.

My dad whispered, “Take the shoot."

Then I shoot it and it fell over. When we quartered  the moose Dean, My dad, and I talked about what happened with the gun.

My dad stared at both of us and said, “Do not, do not, do not ever forget to check if there is a round in the chamber!"

That is a trip I will never forget for the rest of my life something I will never forget is to check if there is round in the chamber. It could be for safety or for shooting an animal. It could be the reason you get an animal or not get an animal. I hope I never forget that lesson. Like my dad said,” Always check if there is a round in the chamber."

The Old Man and the Sea By Ernest Hemingway

The Old Man and the Sea
                         By Ernest Hemingway

The Old Man and the Sea is a great work of literacy. It is a Nobel Prize winner of for Literature in 1954. The cover is self-explanatory; its about an old man at sea who most of the time fishes by himself. The poor old man is named Santiago he lives in a small shack and it seems that his luck has run out. He hasn't caught any fish in eighty four days. I would have given up by then. He fishes on a small skiff and he doesn't fish with a fishing rod. He just fishes with his hands and a long spool of rope with a hook with a little bit of bait on the end. He rows out far into the sea and while his line is sitting in the water it dipped sharply into the water. He doesn't know it yet, but he is going to be on a long ride. That dip in his line was a ginormous fish, it was a marlin. A marlin is a huge fish that looks a lot like sail fish just without the sail. After the long struggle to bring it in he finely got it. While the marlin is tied to the side of the boat when he goes home sharks start to bite off pieces of the fish. When he comes home he only has the remains of the marlin.

I think the theme of this story is to never give up or to endure. My favorite quotes I have ever herd is on page 95 of my book. "But man is not made for defeat," he said. "A man can be destroyed but not defeated.”(95) Another quote that I think says the theme is on page 44 of my book. “Fish” he said softly, aloud, "I'll stay with until I am dead."(44) The third quote I will state is "It’s silly not to hope. It’s a sin he thought,"(96) that is on page 96 of my book. I think that last quote means don't give up in hope either because hope is what keeps you going when there is nothing left or in this case no luck left. I think the theme of this story is to endure what life throws at us, no matter what it is.

This is my favorite book! I would recommend it to any one for as long as I live. I think it appealed to me because I fish a lot. I had a story like that. Except it was a sea lion not a shark, we didn't use a knife we used a seal, and it was a king salmon not a marlin. We got 1/2 of the king back. It was great word of literature. It deserved the Nobel Prize. I didn't really agree with the ending, I wish it had a happier ending. I hope more people read this book, it was great. I hope I can find another book as good as this one!
